My data journey began in the late 80s with my first job at a library software company.  The markup language used to codify complex data about published material was the grandmother of xml and semi-structured data.

Even though the coding medium was not nearly as sophisticated, reusable and repeatable as the tools in our arsenal today, this opportunity opened my eyes to what the subsequent decades would bring.
 

After spending seven years shaping ancient code into an object-oriented paradigm, I had the brilliant opportunity to work for a Big Four.  This radical shift from the back-rooms to client-facing interactions, selling and managing technical deliverables and project financials set me on a quest of finding stories hidden in data and presenting the story in a context that enables actions.

 

In 2002, I started a company and became employee number one.

Fast forward twenty years. Our company had served the biggest names in our vertical on data management, we had a subscription-based cloud offering and we were a three-time honoree in the Inc. 5000 list.

 

In 2021, the assets of our company were purchased by Deloitte.  This gave me the time to pursue my other passion - writing.  The purpose of this site is to offer guidance on your data journey based on my experiences. I now serve as a strategic advisor to assist customers on their data journey.
